Tŷ Du Observatory
Welcome to the Tŷ Du Observatory

My name is Duncan Abraham and I live in Newport, South Wales, UK. I’m a project manager/application developer by trade but enjoy spending evenings looking to the heavens and trying to get the most out of the astronomy equipment I have. My latest job title is “Development and Hosting Manager” for SRS Business Solutions, I’m currently developing a range of products at our datacenter in Blaenavon, South Wales.
Although I have a name for my Observatory, I don’t yet have a permanent home for my scope. Instead I haul a box of cameras, lenses and assorted electronics onto the patio at every opportunity.
I belong to a number of Yahoo technical groups:
Atik, Autoguiding, Canon, Elbrus, EQ6, EQMOD, K3CCDTools, QCUIAG, Skywatcher, Stark Labs and Video Astro
If you want to get in touch mail me on the email address below or post on one of these groups and I’ll get back to you.
Observatory: Latest News
All change: I now have an observatory of the “roll-off-roof” variety. The structure is based on a steel shed and I cast a 12inch (30cm) concrete pier into which I embedded threaded rods to secure the mount. Here are some photos of the build and how I attached the mount to the pier.
I’ve taken lots of images, some good, some far from good and I was wondering what to do with them all, so this site will be home to my gallery if nothing else.
By the way, Tŷ Du is pronounced Tee Dee, so it sort of rhymes with Observatory, well it does after a couple of beers
I’m very keen on making the things I don’t have so keep an eye on the projects area for things that I may dream about, and even some that I’ve made, or will make when I get around to it.
